Places to Sled in Pagosa Springs

Sledding down a snowy hill is a popular winter activity for the whole family. Kids and adults alike, love to race downhill on a sled, and will walk back up the hill with sled in tow to do it all over again. Sledding is memorialized in many movies, however the scene in Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase stands out among the many. Sledding is also a fairly inexpensive activity, especially compared to skiing. Sleds can be purchased around town, but there is also the option of renting. There are several places to sled in Pagosa Springs Colorado to bring the kids, or bring back those childhood memories.

Top Places to Sled in Pagosa Springs

Turkey Springs Sledding

One popular place to sled is at the main entrance to the Turkey Springs trail system, which is north of town off of Piedra Road. Parking is just over the cattle guard on the left. From the parking lot, a short walk to the hill is all that is needed. This is a main entrance into the trail system, so hikers and snowmobiles will be coming and going. However, the sledding hill is out of the way from the rest of the traffic allowing for a safe and fun time.

Reservoir Hill Sledding

The popular hill overlooking downtown Pagosa Springs is right in town and is a prime spot to sled. Access is off of Hot Springs Blvd. behind the post office.

High Country Lodge Sledding

***UPDATE*** The sledding hill at High Country Lodge is no longer available.

Heading towards Wolf Creek Pass on Highway 160 right next to Ole Miner’s restaurant is High Country Lodge. Here you will find a nicely groomed ski hill with a lift. This hill is steeper than some of the other spots, but is safe for anyone to try.

Wolf Creek Pass Sledding

The Pass area at the Continental Divide is a very popular spot for many activities including sledding, snowmobiling, and hiking. There are plenty of hills on the south side of the pass to choose from to sled. Just be wary of the snowmobiles since the pass is a starting point for tours. Note that the parking areas can fill up during popular times when the weather is good.
